After Firefighters were called at 22:00 BST on Thursday to the substation located inside a disused office block on Millstone Lane, electricity has now been restored to the 260 homes which were left without power, and fortunately, following the explosion no-one was injured.

In a statement about the fire at the Leicester substation, which caused families to be left without power, the energy provider said: “the cause of the incident is being investigated, but it is believed that it was caused by the failure of a cable component in the substation”.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service have now confirmed that the explosive fire was as a result of component failure caused by a fault with the electrical switch gear in the electrical transformer.
